BioFix Lumi luminous bacteria tests are biological rapid tests for determining acute toxicity in water samples. They are based on the natural bioluminescence of the marine bacteria Aliivibrio fischeri. The natural glow of the bacteria is inhibited by toxic substances and is therefore a parameter for the toxicity of a sample.
The test method is widely used in environmental analysis, particularly for the investigation of wastewater, industrial effluents, eluates from soils or sediments, and for monitoring systems in water supply networks.
The international standard DIN EN ISO 11348 regulates the performance of these tests, which are relevant for regulatory analyses in environmental agencies and wastewater analysis. It serves as an internationally recognized basis for the quick and easy measurement of toxicity in water and wastewater samples.
BioFix Lumi is available in two versions: The liquid-dried luminescent bacteria comply with ISO 11348-2, while the freeze-dried version is used in accordance with ISO 11348-3. The ideal partner for evaluating our bacteria is our BioFix® Lumi-10 luminometer. They are also compatible with many luminometers from other manufacturers.
