Most test kits for the determination of chlorine are based on the proven DPD chemistry. For decades, this chemistry has functioned reliably and has therefore been established as the standard. To protect the extremely sensitive DPD in the mixture, boric acid was used as a stabilizer in the past.
However, the assessment of the hazardousness of boric acid has changed in recent years. Thus, boric acid and its derivatives have been included in the list of candidates for SVHC substances. SVHC stands for Substances of Very High Concern.
MACHEREY-NAGEL always tries to keep the risk for the users of our tests as low as possible. This is especially true in the VISOCOLOR area, as the tests are not always used in controlled laboratory environments. Therefore, we have fundamentally revised our VISOCOLOR DPD-based tests for the parameters chlorine, chlorine dioxide and bromine.
We are pleased to announce that from now on we will only produce boric acid-free test kits in the VISOCOLOR range. This applies to all VISOCOLOR product lines, namely alpha, ECO, HE and Powder Pillows. There are no compromises regarding the stability of our tests. It was also particularly important to us that no changes are made to the color scales and calibrations of our photometers. This means that users can benefit directly from the improved formulation, without the need for updates or new purchases. All ISO conformities of our tests are of course also retained.
All advantages at a glance:
- 100 % boric acid-free
- Easy to use
- DIN EN ISO 7393-2 compliant
- No GHS declaration for the solid-reagent DPD tests
Together with our customers we are pleased to take another step towards the safest determination of Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide and Bromine!
