Methanogens
Microscopy 2.0 - The innovation in wastewater analysis
Biogas, produced by bacteria, represents an important contribution to the energy transition. With the help of qPCR, these bacteria can be optimised, i.e. the yield of biogas can be increased in your plant.

Biomass influences gas yield
Using qPCR, biogas production was compared between biogas and sewage plants. Each of the plants relies on a different biomass. Biogas plant A uses 80% maize silage, whereas biogas plant B uses 80% biowaste for biogas production. There is a clear difference in the composition of the methane-forming bacteria in all plants. The use of biomass shows an influence on the activity of the methanogens. (MBA: Methanobacteriales MMI: Methanomicrobiales, MSA: Methanosarcinales MET: Total cell count of all methanogens)
