CIosure is laminated with Polypropylene (fluorine-free) instead of PTFE; thus suitable for analysis of fluorinated organic compounds (e.g. PFAS analysis). Magnetic closures for vial transportation via magnet. Required by autosamplers like the CTC Combi/GC PAL and identically constructed instruments.

PTFE-free closures (fluorine-free)
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) covers most elastomeric liners in chromatography closures. It is the chemically resistant barrier that on one hand protects the elastomer layer (like silicone or rubber) from being destructed by aggressive solvents/samples and on the other hand the samples from any contaminants possibly emerging out of the carrier material. While it is generally recommendable to have such a chemically resistant barrier between sample and carrier material, the PTFE lamination may become a problem in the analysis of fluorinated compounds, as in e.g. PFAS analysis, as there is the risk that fluorine from the PTFE may migrate into the sample.
A fluorine-free septum, i.e. a septum with a Polyimide or Polypropylene instead of a PTFE lamination as the chemically resistant barrier, is therefore recommendable to ensure reliable analysis results. MACHEREY-NAGEL offers a screw closure N 9 (REF 702402) and a snap ring closure N 11 (REF 702403) with a Silicone/Polyimide septum. The Silicone as a carrier material offers safe penetration and high analytical purity. If used on HPLC instruments with thick and blunt needles, the screw closure N 9 with slit Silicone/Polyimide septum (MN REF 702405) is recommended.
Furthermore we also offer screw closures N 9 with a Silicone/Polyproylene liner as another PTFE-free option (MN REF 702406). This version is available as a magnetic version as well for autosamplers transporting vials via a magnet (MN REF 702407).
PTFE-free closures may also be used as a more environmentally friendly alternative to standard Silicone/PTFE closures.
For PFAS analysis the closures are used in combination with plastic vials.
