Bead Beating - The gold standard for microbiome samples
To ensure an efficient lysis, even from hard to lyse organisms, we recommend mechanical homogenization by bead beating.
Bead beating is a very efficient mechanical method to lyse your microbiome samples. The beads that can be used are specific for each sample type and are made of i.e ceramic, or other suitable materials.
The overall aim of disruption via beads is the release of nucleic acid into the surrounding medium of the bead tube. Following this release, the nucleic acids can purified via spin, magnetic bead based kits or anion exchange.
The method
Beat beating can be used in combination with all types of nucleic acid isolation kit from anion exchange, to silica based isolation kits or even magnetic bead based kits.
In the overview below you can find an illustration of the bead beating process from sample preparation to the elution of your nucleic acids.
MN Bead Tube type A
Microbiome samples need a very thorough lysis as those samples are highly complex. The very efficient, ceramic bead-based lysis procedure achieves unbiased mechanical lysis for microbiome studies.
