HPLC analysis of potential COVID-19 medication

HPLC is an essential tool for separation and purification of compounds in drug synthesis. Therefore also suitable for analysis and screening of potential COVID-19 drugs for treatment of the viral disease. Please refer to our broad range of highly selective UHPLC core-shell and totally porous HPLC reversed-phase columns. Choose from more than 20 phases!

2-deoxy-D-glucose

2-deoxy-D-glucose is a glucose molecule in which the hydroxyl group in the 2 position has been replaced by hydrogen. By inhibiting glycolysis, 2-deoxy-D-glucose affects carbohydrate metabolism and thus could prevent further proliferation of cells infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Budesonide

Even though the vaccination campaign is making progress in many parts of the world – the EU continues, albeit at a “different” pace - the need for effective drugs against COVID-19 remains high. For the treatment of COVID-19, a common asthma drug (budesonide) showed potentially good efficacy in initial tests.

Fluoxetine | Prozac

In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, drugs already approved for treatment are also being tested for potential efficacy. In doing so, drugs from the related therapeutic application spectrum; i.e. viral infectious diseases; are not the only types being investigated.

Dexamethasone

See how HPLC analysis time of the two epimers Dexamethasone and Betamethasone can be reduced to a fifth by using a MACHEREY-NAGEL Pentafluorophenyl core-shell silica column without loss in resolution. In comparison the same separation performed on a conventional totally porous column with the same surface chemistry.

Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine

A real hype, even fueled by prominent opinion formers and multipliers from world politics began, although validated patient studies, which showed clear evidence of the benefit were missing. Meanwhile FDA has revoked the emergency use authorization for using chloroquine and its hydroxylated derivative hydroxychloroquine with hospitalized COVID-19 patients due to possible serious cardiological side effects.
