Parameters
Ammonium AOX BOD₅ Chlorine COD Iron Nitrate Nitrite Phosphate pH Sulfate TNb Zinc
Ammonium
In surface and ground waters, ammonium ions are an indication for the decomposition of animal or vegetable matter. High ammonia concentrations in surface waters can indicate contamination from waste water treatment plants, fertilizer runoff, or industrial effluents. Excess ammonia levels are toxic to aquatic life. See how you can control your ammonium level with NANOCOLOR tube tests.
AOX
The AOX value indicates the content of organohalogen compounds, which are often found in industrial wastewater. These compounds are generally not biodegradable and are extremely harmful to humans and the environment. Find out how you can determine this important parameter with the NANOCOLOR tube test.
BOD₅ – Biochemical oxygen demand
Besides the chemical oxygen demand (COD), the biochemical oxygen demand after 5 days (BOD₅) is the most important cumulative effect parameter for assessment of the degree of contamination of a water body. Learn more about this important parameter and how it is performed.
Chlorine
Chlorine and its derivatives are the most important disinfectants for disinfection of swimming pools, water mains, and water reservoirs. Electroplaters use chlorine for the detoxification of cyanide-containing waste. Regular monitoring of chlorine level is essential as excessive chlorine not only impairs the smell and taste of water but also can be hazardous.
COD – Chemical oxygen demand
Besides the biological oxygen demand (BOD), the COD is the most important sum parameter for assessing the pollution of water. MACHEREY‑NAGEL test tubes provide results that are comparable to the DIN 38409 H-41. Many also fulfill the requirements of DIN ISO 15705
Iron
Iron is one of the most common elements - essential for human life and indispensable in industry. Iron is also found in wastewater in dissolved form. It is not directly toxic to humans but is monitored for possible water use restrictions. Learn how to determine this important parameter with our photometric test kits.
NANOCOLOR Advance
The NANOCOLOR Advance is a spectrophotometer for measuring all photometrically evaluable test kits from MACHEREY‑NAGEL. It provides precise and reliable measurement results in daily laboratory routine. With its wavelength spectrum of 340–800 nm the NANOCOLOR Advance can be used universally in the entire spectrum of water and wastewater analysis.
NANOCOLOR VIS II and NANOCOLOR UV/VIS II
Spectrophotometers are indispensable all-rounders in modern water analysis laboratories. They provide reliable and accurate measurements for a wide range of applications, including evaluation of photometric cuvette tests, turbidity measurement, and colorimetry. Learn more about the technical capabilities and useful application tips for spectrophotometers.
Nitrate
Nitrate ions are present at varying concentrations in ground and surface waters, as well as in municipal and industrial wastewaters. They are present almost exclusively in dissolved form in water samples. See how you can control your nitrat level with NANOCOLOR tube tests.
Nitrite
Nitrate ions are present at varying concentrations in ground and surface waters, as well as in municipal and industrial wastewaters. They are present almost exclusively in dissolved form in water samples. See how you can control your nitrat level with NANOCOLOR tube tests.
PCR – precise, clever, robust
An innovation in sewage plant monitoring is quantitative PCR (qPCR). qPCR is a method that can detect and quantify microorganisms based on their genetic material (DNA/RNA). In our new offer, we use this analysis to specifically monitor microorganisms such as microthrix or nitrifiers, which can lead to plant malfunctions.
Compact photometer PF‑12Plus
The PF-12Plus compact photometer is a filter photometer for measuring all photometrically evaluable test kits from MACHEREY‑NAGEL. Due to its compact dimensions and the robust, waterproof housing, the PF‑12Plus is perfectly suited for measurements directly on site.
Phosphate
Phosphate is a common parameter in waste water analysis. It appears as ortho- or total phosphate and represents an indicator for industrial polution or over-fertilization. Learn how you can monitor your phosphate concentrations with NANOCOLOR tube tests.
pH
The pH-value indicates whether a water or solution is acidic, alkaline or neutral. pH values play an important role in chemistry, engineering, and biological processes. Many chemical reactions, particularly chemical equilibrium reactions, are strongly influenced by the pH. In many such processes, exact determination and appropriate regulation and compliance with the specified pH is required.

Sulfate
Sulfate is a main component in rocks such as gypsum and alum and is therefore also found in natural waters. It is impossible to imagine industry without sulphuric acid and sulphates as basic chemicals. As higher sulphate levels are harmful to the environment and cause a bitter taste, monitoring them in drinking water and waste water is essential for the health of humans and nature. Find out here how you can determine this important parameter with our test kits.
TNb – Total nitrogen
Total nitrogen (TNb) is a cumulative parameter. TNb stands for total bound nitrogen. It is composed of organic nitrogen (e.g. urea, peptides or proteins) and inorganic or mineral nitrogen (ammonium/ammonia, nitrate and nitrite). Gaseous elemental nitrogen N2 which is contained in the water cannot be determined.
Zinc
Zinc salts are used in electroplating for the galvanic zinc coating of steel in order to achieve an effective rust prevention. Also in cooling waters, zinc salts are applied as corrosion protection agents. Learn how to determine zinc levels with NANOCOLOR tube tests.
URYXXON Relax
The URYXXON Relax provides dependable urine status results to detect early stages of many diseases such as diabetes, kidney disease and urinary tract infections. URYXXON Relax readings eliminate the subjectivity of visual color interpretation. The URYXXON Relax makes urinalysis simpler and more reliable.
