Sample pretreatment:
In a small beaker 2.0 - 2.5 g of sample were dissolved in 5 mL isohexane / t-butyldimethylether (95:5, v/v). 50 μL internal standard solution (benzo[b]chrysene,
1 ng/μL isooctane) were added.



Conditions:
Column conditioning: with 10 mL isohexane / t-butyldimethylether (95:5, v/v)

Sample application: The solution was transferred onto the cartridge and the beaker rinsed with additional 2 mL isohexane / t-butyldimethylether (95:5, v/v).

Column washing: The cartridge was washed with 10 mL isohexane / t-butylmethylether (95:5, v/v), followed by a small volume of air (about 3 mL). The eluate was discarded afterwards. The cartridges was washed again with 10 mL isohexane / t-buthylmethylether (80:20, v/v), followed by a small volume of air (about 3 mL), the eluate discarded once more. Again the cartridges was washed with 10 mL isohexane / t-buthylmethylether (50:50, v/v) followed by a small volume of air (about 3 mL), the eluate once more discarded.

Elution: PAHs were eluted with 20 mL THF.

Evaporation: 50 μL acetonitrile / diethylenglycole (2:1, v/v) were added and the eluate evaporated to dryness. The residue was dissolved in 500 μL acetonitrile and transferred to an autosampler vial.



Subsequent analysis:
HPLC, e.g with NUCLEODUR® C18 PAH
