system requirements for fast GC:
small inner diameters result in high column inlet pressures and a lower
volume flow of the mobile phase, which as a consequence require very
fast injection of very small samples against a high pressure
the amount of sample, which can be injected, is limited by the inner diameter and the thin film
high sensitivity detectors with small volume and extremely short
response time, as well as a very rapid data acquisition and processing
are required
