Photometric determination of sludge activity

Determination of the biochemical activity of sludge (activated sludge, digested sludge etc.) by means of the dehydrogenase activity using 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazoliumchloride (TTC).

Colourless TTC is converted into red triphenylformazane (TPF) by dehydrogenases. The formed, water insoluble TPF is dissolved in ethanol and is photometrically determined.
