Analysis of biodiesel with the new OPTIMA® BioDiesel GC columns

The manufacturing of diesel from renewable resources obtains an increasing importance. The grade of biodiesel is specified in accordance with DIN EN 14214 or with ASTM D 6751. The following parameters have to be determined in the analysis:

Analysis of methanol in accordance with DIN EN 14110
The methanol content must not exceed 0.2 %. Methanol can be determined in the concentration range from 0.01 to 0.5 % by headspace GC with the OPTIMA® BioDiesel M column.

Analysis of FAMEs in accordance with DIN EN 14103
Typical FAMEs between myristic acid (C14) and nervonic acid (C24:1) methyl esters have to be separated and linolenic acid (C18:3) methyl ester must be determined. OPTIMA® BioDiesel F separates the substances in less than 25 min with good resolution.
